A stellar example of Federal-era architecture, the dusty-red Governor's Mansion is considered the oldest continually operating executive residence in the country. Once called the "Palace" during its heyday in the 1800s, the mansion has hosted such dignitaries as Theodore Roosevelt, Andrew Jackson, and Henry Clay; visitors may tour the building, viewing rare pieces of antique furniture, antique portraits, and other period furnishings. The mansion lies in the heart of the city, near the north end of Frankfort Cemetery.
