A fixture of the Kentucky Historical Society complex of noteworthy structures, the Old State Capitol building was the state's official government seat throughout much of the 1800s. Both historically and architecturally important, it features an elegant Greek Revival design, incuding a self-supporting staircase that remains standing via nothing but carefully applied pressure within itself. The Capitol lies downtown, next to the Thomas D. Clark Center.
